OUR SCHOOL
Honowai Elementary School is located in Waipahu, Hawaii. The students are mostly Filipino, part-Hawaiian, and Indo-Chinese. It is a Title I school, has a moderate student transient rate, is comprised of almost an equal number of new and experienced teachers and staff, and continues to have a low teacher turnover rate, averaging one to two transfers every five years.
The school is operating under a School Community Council (SCC), is implementing a balanced language arts curriculum, continues to implement the Everyday Mathematics program, and has strengthened its language arts curriculum and instruction through the Step Up To Writing, Help Me to Learn, Multi-Sensory Structured Language, Achieve 3000 and MY Access programs.
Honowai is an NCLB status school with an Improvement Year 1 rating. The school was designated a 2004 Hawaii Distinguished School.
